Ulmus ‘Frontier’, a cross between Ulmus minor and Ulmus parviflora. Has a much more moderate growth rate unlike other elm species. Whereas other elms often show a yellow autumn colouration, this species turns purple-red. An upright growth habit, loose crown and slightly overhanging twigs make it a very graceful appearance. Ultimate height 6-10 metres. Provenance: breeding programme of the National Arboretum in Washington DC
